The Melonseed does indeed seem a very likeable sailing boat, but to my Australian sailors eyes, helming from the leeward side while the boat is heeling towards you feels disconcerting and uncomfortable.
I knew the wonderful Rhumba and her owner Barry during her time in Yamba, NSW, and had the privilege of sailing aboard her. It's good to see her again.
It's great to see Arana here. I owned her her for 27 years before Tom acquired her. After sailing her up from Sydney she was kept on a mooring in Yamba at the entrance to the Clarence River in northern NSW, Australia. I wrote about the refurbishment work I did in Australian Amateur Boatbuilder magazine, and am glad Tom, a skilled boatbuilder, has become her custodian. She was a lovely ship to spend time aboard.
17′ Douglass Thistle Class (1947) – HELICON DAZE
Nice looking classic dinghy, but you wouldn't want to capsize her, without any buoyancy tanks or bags.14′ Melonseed Sailing Skiff

I think Bolger called this design 'Harbinger' - I admired it in one of Bolger's books about his designs.27′ Brown Sydney Gaff Cutter (1934) – ARANA
