14' Shell Lake Outboard Runabout (1950) - TIME

I took my time restoring this Shell Lake Deluxe Cormorant, spending eight years on the project. Purchased in 2004 from a neighbor at Sage Lake near Lupton, Michigan. We spent several summers occasionally working on TIME there before I transported her from Sage Lake to our home in Annapolis, Maryland, in 2006.

There, I refastened her completely with silicon bronze screws in epoxy-filled and redrilled holes, replaced the oak keel, and scarfed and replaced some new frame sections. Except for those few pieces, TIME has all of her original structure and equipment. She races around at over 20 knots with her 1982, 15-hp Evinrude.

The Washburn County Historical Society in Shell Lake, Wisconsin says she was built at Shell Lake Boats, Inc. in 1950 and delivered to Indian River, MI.

When we relaunched TIME in Annapolis on June 25, 2012, she’d been out of the water for over 30 years. Since then, she has been used continuously to explore the creeks and rivers, and lakes in MD and MI.
