72' L. Francis Herreshoff Ketch (1936) - TICONDEROGA
Owner’s Description
Launched in 1936, TICONDEROGA (72′ LWL and 86’ LOA) has set more elapsed-time records than any ocean racer in history. She finished first in twenty-four of her initial thirty-seven races and has held more than thirty course records in races on several oceans, surpassing even the best performances of the hard-driven nineteenth-century clipper ships.
Many also consider TICONDEROGA also to be one of the most beautiful ocean racers ever. Her creator, L. Francis Herreshoff, shaped her for “afternoon sailing,” giving her uncommon elegance of form with a clipper bow, elliptical transom, and a raked rig. It is these qualities of unsurpassed opulence and beauty, combined with her astonishing speed, which have made Ticonderoga so incomparable.
Scott and Icy Frantz consider it a privilege to have owned her for nearly 30 years and consider themselves more trustee than owner of this lovely yacht.
