SY “STÖRTEBEKER III” –
www.stoertebeker3.deTouring cruiser made famous by Ludwig Schlimbach’s single-handed Atlantic crossing from Lisbon to New York in 1937.
The boat went on a world tour via England in 1948 across the Atlantic to the Caribbean, via the Marquesas to Auckland NZ. From the 1950s it was based on Vancouver Island. At the end of the 1970s it made a longer single-handed Pacific voyage to the Marquesas and Hawaii, among other places. In 2000, the boat was based in Port Townsend until 2013.
It is currently being restored in Germany.
We are urgently looking for people who know the boat from its time on Vancouver Island and Port Townsend. Any contact can be helpful.
We are looking for photos / videos / travelreports of the boat and missing original parts for the restoration.
e.g.
– sheet winches (sold in Port Townsend ca. 2001)
– main halyard wire winch (mast, replaced in Victoria before 2000)
– stancions (removed in Victoria between 1981-2000 )
– parts of the interior (bulleye in toilet door, bowl, removed 1980 in Sydney/VI, Bent Jesperson)(please see complete list at stoertebeker3.de)
2022 we were finally able to change the build location. and many structural restorations could be done there by professional wooden boat builders.
We look forward to the next stages of work and continue to research the history in order to continue the faithful restoration with as little reconstruction as possible.
