Owner’s Description
Fred Marks built Stormalong at Esperance near Dover from plans supplied by Charles Lucas between 1946 and 1948. She was built over a eucalyptus hard wood keel and eucalyptus frames planked and decked in Huon Pine. In 1948 she was rafted alongside The May Queen and towed to constitution dock in Hobart where the engine was fitted. The first engine was reported to be a ten HP National. Freddy used Stormalong along the south west coast as a crayfish and fishing boat. Win & Clyde Clayton purchased Stormalong in 1954 and owned her until 1965. During these years her home port was Port Davey in South West Tasmania. Since 1965 Stormalong has had a number of owners all of whom used her in the Tasmanian crayfishing industry. In 2008 new owners Bob and Wendy Walters had her converted from a fishing ketch to a motor sailer with accomodation forward and aft. She has been owned by the current owner since 2015 and has been gradually undergoing small but important restorations.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
