Owner’s Description
Saecwen of Lymington is a traditional built 51ft ketch with a lifting keel designed by Nigel Irens and built by the Elephant Boatyard on the shores of the River Hamble.
Launched in June 2021, the brief for this new build yacht was to create a luxurious cruising boat capable of sailing from the Amazon to the Arctic, something classic in concept but with a contemporary twist. Every single piece of her has been custom built by the team of master craftsmen at the Elephant Boatyard.
Built from the finest quality, sustainably sourced timber, she has a construction of 28 frames overlaid with cedar strip planking, khaya mahogany diagonals and sheathed with glass epoxy.
She was mid-build when the pandemic hit, and launched in lockdown but has already sailed over 1,700 NM, with more big adventures planned.
Her travels so far have taken her from the Solent along to the Scillies, across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland and cruising around Jura, Isla and the southern Hebrides. From there she headed back south to Howth (Dublin) and down the Irish coast to Cork, Crosshaven and Kinsale before heading home via Newly, the Helford, Plymouth, Newton Ferrer’s and Dartmouth.Already a member?
