SADIE is a Downeast style powerboat, cedar planked, oak framed. Built, 1979 by Ralph Stanley of Southwest Harbor, Maine. Originally named POOR RICHARD by Rick Savage of Northeast Harbor, who worked closely with Ralph on the build. She was built on the same molds as Ralph’s 38′ workboat design, “just shortened up” according to the summary of boats in the back of Ralph Stanley’s book TALES OF A MAINE BOATBUILDER. This past summer was our first full season with SADIE and had the pleasure of meeting up with Rick Savage on his mooring in Northeast Harbor. He was very generous with his time and told us some wonderful stories of working with Ralph to build the boat he wanted. A few of the pictures below are of SADIE and ASTICOU, Rick’s current boat.

Beautiful boat James, Nothing like a Stanley build boat! I was at his shop back in the 1990s in Southwest Harbor.
Nice to see a boat from Portsmouth. I was just up there. My grandmother was born in Strawbery Banke. Dave Satter
