Owner’s Description
Sachuest is a fiberglass replica of the small cat-rigged boats that were so popular back in the 1870’s and 80’s for fishing commercially in Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay. This example, fitted with a bowsprit and small jib, was built by the Linton Boat works in Portland, Oregon, in 1976. They made only six, and this highly finished example uses iroko for seats and floorboards, Alaskan yellow cedar for the deck, Honduras mahogany for the rudder, and black locust for the tiller. She has a lively helm and points surprisingly well, considering the absence of a centerboard. The original boat, named BUTTON SWAN, is preserved at Mystic Seaport and is written up in The Catboat Association’s Bulletin #52.
