S/V Isolda is built in steel 1902 and was the last swedish schooner to sail with cargo across the oceans. Right now she is getting renovated to be able to cross the oceans again.
This spring, the three masted schooner Isolda will finally come one step closer to getting topmasts, a bowsprit and booms as they are in the making.
The most interesting and well-known stories from Isolda are centred around her old skipper, Carl-Julius Ahlgren. He became the skipper of Isolda already in 1909 and sailed with her until 1960. He had by then been at sea for 66 years. Carl-Julius had his wife, Ellen Ahlgren with him, and they got 4 kids, all born onboard. The kids got their names according to the place where they were born. The oldest son, Carl Bolivar, saw the light of day for the first time in Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela. He was named after Simon Bolivar, El Libertador.
The oldest daughter was named Carmen Isolda, as she was born by the island “Isla la Carmen” in Laguna de Terminos (Mexico). In 1914, the third child was born. She was named Swanhild Magnolia as she was born in Swansea Bay (UK) while the Magnolia trees were blooming. Carl-Julius and Ellens last born child was Göte Cicero as he was born by the inlet of Gothenburg (Göteborg in swedish).
