“Rosanna” was built at the boatyard Cooperative Daniele Manin in 1958. It is one of the youngest boats in our Club (Classic Boat Club) but for a Gondola it is quite a age. Normally they survive only about 20 years in Venice.
“Rosanna” was built as a prize for the “Regatta Storico” in Venice. The winner of the race sold her shortly afterwards, because he had a “better” Gondola. This new Gondolier named her after his wife “Rosanna” and used her to row people around the city. When he retired she did not get destroyed like normally instead she was stored away. In 1995 she was soled to a boat collector in Stratford-upon-Avon, UK and rowed there. After he bought a more special gondola at Turk`s auction, we got it in 2011 and brought it over to Germany.
After a hard winter of restoration work she was in the water every summer since. We have a lot of fun rowing her, even we have to change a lot of wood every year. There are not much gondolas in Germany so she is a local attraction. She is in the water from April to October.
