1957 Chris Craft 21′ Continental “Rocinante”. 16 years in the rebuilding. Hauled the starting boat from Altus, OK wrapped in plastic so as not to riddle the highways with mahogany and parts. Also found a frame in Florida with a “Cadillac” engine. Turns out it was from a ’64 Coupe d’ville and was mounted flywheel aft with homemade fiberglass exhausts. Another “boat in a bag” trip. Found the engine I used (a 354 CI Chrysler Marine Hemi sporting two 4 BBL carbs) near Knoxville unassembled.
The interior is slightly different from the original. I used different more subtle color scheme, and mahogany planking Not exactly like it came from the factory, but unlike the original designers, I had years to think about it. My apologies to those I have offended.
Rocinante was the name of Dan Quixote’s horse. The name translated loosely means “used to be an old horse”, and its rider was a somewhat clueless fellow with a “pony tail” who thought he could change the world. The shoe fits.
