19' Ostlind Pedal Boat (2009) - RIPPLE

Human powered 19′, 2 place boat using Hobie Mirage drives.

I was astounded by the thrust I could generate with a Hobie Mirage drive. A dual place Mirage drive Hobie kayak can easily exceed hull speed. I found Chris Ostlind who had experience with the drives and ask him to design a stitch & glue hull specifically for Mirage propulsion. “Ripple” is the result. We can maintain 8.2kph for 2 hours while sitting back in the shade with hands free.
Ripple was built from 4mm ply. We built 2 other dual Mirage drive boats from a different designer, one strip planked and the other from 3mm ply. Ripple is was the fastest.
