25' Herreshoff Watch Hill 15 Class Sloop (2004) - POETRY
Owner’s Description
Poetry (formerly Orphan) is a traditionally constructed Watch Hill 15 built by the late Dave Corcoran of Bull House Boatworks for himself in 2004. The rules under which she was designed in 1898 produced graceful, narrow hulls with long overhangs. The Herreshoff 15s are reminiscent of the America’s Cup yacht COLUMBIA which was designed concurrently and many referred to them as a “Little Columbia.” The Original boats were built lightly and sailed aggressively which may explain why only a few precious originals survive. Fortunately, a few talented builders have taken to building to this fine design in the traditional manner which preserves the aesthetics of wooden frames and joinery. Poetry is constructed in this way with carvel cedar planking over white oak frames and a laminated mahogany backbone.

WOW!! She really is a beautiful boat Rich! I look forward to when we can get together again and have a chance to take her out!! Take care and be safe!! Mark
Absolutely stunning! What a perfect boat for Cape May! I love most anything Herreshoff (a picture of Columbia hangs in my office). I can picture evening sails in the harbor. All the best!
Thank you ! It really is perfect for Cape May as she sails beautifully even if we have to raise the board for a bit, so we can enjoy most of the harbor despite the shallows.
Just lovely. You are very lucky–Dave Corcoran was a wonderful boatbuilder.
