Ootek is a Wood Strip sea kayak based on West Greenland Inuit indigenous hunting kayaks. Unlike true Greenland designs this kayak is a soft chine hull. Significant flare above the waterline gives it great secondary stability yet with a narrow waterline beam for speed. A well behaved design with increased stability in rough water. Great tracking and easy to maneuver with a retractable skeg to tame beam winds and following seas. A finished weight of 35 pounds helps combat the ever increasing pull of gravity as the years go by.
Hatch covers are held tight with attracting pairs of rare earth magnets for a waterproof seal. Carved effigies of salmon, seals and sea mammals create adjustment bars for the shock cord hold downs on the deck. This and the “goose egg” handles on the stem ends reflect a more traditional outfitting style.
