The inspiration of this yacht ‘Mana’ came to Prof. J.E.L. Cull from a “Yachting Monthly” Designing Competition No 27, of which the winning prize went to Mr J.A. Lennox with his design ‘Vera’. Prof. Cull called for tenders and the winning figure from Colin Wild of Stanley Bay Auckland N.Z. was the princely sum of 360 Pounds. the yacht was built to the copied plans drawn by Prof. Cull and then railed to Wellington where she made many Cook Straight crossings also won many races. In 1929 she was sailed down to Lyttelton by Prof. Cull and Mr J McLean. Then in 1931 was left in the custody of the harbour master until sold to Mr G.T. White 1934 ‘Mana’ was passed down to his son Mr O.H.White and then in 1987, I purchased ‘Mana’ from his two sons so you could say that I’m the third owner. I have all the original line drawings and correspondence from Prof. Cull to Colin Wild
