38' Jones Inchcape Ketch-Rigged Motorsailer (1965) - MAGGIE OF ABERDOUR

Inchcape 38 Motorsailer, larch on oak built for Mr Michel Noel Mavrogordato a mechanical and aeronautical engineer and Sqn Ldr in the RAF Reserve in WWII. She was unusual from build being twin screw with twin Kelvin F4 engines, replaced some years ago by two Dover / Dorset Ford 4 cyl diesels of 65hp each. Maggie has had several owners, but the last, Jim Brown of Stonehaven, carried out a significant rebuild returning her to largely original condition. She has long legs with a cruising range in excess of 500 miles motoring. She is comfortable at 6 kts under power and up to 7 kts under sail in a good wind abaft the beam. Much admired around the west of Scotland her new stomping ground under the command of a retired Royal Navy Commodore – the first photo is in the pool at Rodel, Isle of Harris and another at St Kilda both in 2020.
