Katy is a Murray Peterson-designed gaff topsail cutter based upon the Susan design. Murray’s son, Bill Peterson designed Katy by extending the lines of the popular schooner, Susan, by two feet. She has the seakindly hull of the Susan schooners with a single cabin and cutter rig. This, coupled with the added length results in spacious accommodations for a traditional boat of her size.
Her rig balances easily in any kind of weather, she is a joy to sail. She is fast and dry in all but the heaviest of seas. Her broad side decks make it easy to move forward to shorten sail in a blow. Her snug cabin has room for three, a complete galley and an enclosed head.
I enjoy cruising between Camden Maine and Mt. Sinai NY. Katy is comfortable crossing the Gulf of Maine in pretty dirty weather or gunkholing down the coast.

Hi Annie: Apologies, and good point on the photos. I uploaded some new photos of Katy’s galley and some of her sailing. I admire that cozy galley and cabin on your Fanshi, beautiful work.
I believe I saw and admired her at Paul Luke’s boatyard a few years ago. Enjoy!
It would be nice to have a few more photos, inside and out!
