Owner’s Description
1898 Wilton Crosby Catboat, the only surviving D Class racing catboat. Reportedly built for a member of JP Morgan’s family, possibly for that great man himself (records for boats this small were not kept, and so it has been hard to confirm this). Grayling began racing with the Class D fleet in 1913 with Owner Clarence V. Nickerson of Hull, MA. Mr. Nicker son owned Grayling until 1946 when she was sold to points south. In 1982 her current owner found her, and has been carefully caring for her ever since. She is in like-new condition. it is interesting to note that while much of the boat has been re-newed, the majority of the planking has NOT been replaced. Rather the existing planking has been painstakingly repaired in place, and so the boat is very much made up of original material, much more than most boat of this age.Already a member?
