Owner’s Description
Recognized in her era as the most striking & fastest hull form of her time, this rare Maine lobster boat referred to as a “Beals-Islander”, with low freeboard & graceful sheer was constructed of cedar on oak in the skeg design & launched in 1963 by Vinal Beal. FLYING EAGLE (as orig. named & colored) is rare because most all had worked hard hunting lobster in the far eastern fetches of Maine, (this one by four well documented down east lobstermen over a 45 year duration) & were ultimately left to rot with the advent of new age fiberglass construction. The first stage of her resurrection began in 2013 at Artisan Boatworks where Rick had found her in Rockport ME, after which point she journeyed cross country 3,500 miles to the Maine-like San Juan Islands of Washington State. Upon arrival she was sporting a new stroked 350 HP Mercruiser V8 engine (replacing the “Olds”), new forefoot, tankage, bronze prop guard, etc. On an annual basis since that point, between multiple seasons of cruising the US & Canadian waters of the Pacific Northwest, Emerald Marine of Anacortes has completed several structural restoration projects, replacing floor timbers, steam bent frames / garboards, trunk cabin, stem, new prop, drive train, inclusive of much hidden modernization & safety upgrades. Now this old bird will continue turning heads while strutting her throaty dual dry exhausts at an easy 21 knots!Already a member? Log in herePhotos
