Owner’s Description
15′ Walt Simmons Christmas Wherry built in the exact traditional method using the construction and lofting plans from Walt. I searched around the country to find the best variety of traditional lumber including okume plywood planking, white oak, Atlantic white cedar for frames, Quarter sawn Sapele for transom and thwarts, Sitka spruce for mast, boom and spar. The boat has traditional bronze screws, copper rivets and bronze oar locks and rudder gudgeons. I even carved a piece of African black wood for the custom laminated tiller. I got a traditional sail from Gambell & Hunter sailmakers of ME, and Shaw & Tenney oars and sculling oar from ME. The enamel paint is from Marshalls Cove Paint for the great colors.Already a member?
