Owner’s Description
Ellie is essentially a new boat – virtually everything was replaced except the hull, deck, and mast extrusion. The interior layout remains fairly true to the original, though the Herreshoff interior brightens her up considerably, as does the addition of a hatch in the salon. The deck layout works well for sail handling and anchoring and she’s a very easy boat to singlehand. The photos show the reverse tiller which steers the boat under wind vane or autopilot. This really frees up the cockpit except when hand steering.Ellie’s owner and lifelong sailor chose this 1967 Ericson 30 as a retirement project after his woodworking career ended. His previous boats were all wooden and much larger than Ellie. She was a multi year backyard project, and when completed in 2015, cruised the CA coast and Mexico. She will be heading to the Pacific NW in the Spring.
