Owner’s Description
This is an incredible opportunity to own a true part of maritime history at just $99,900. ELF is the oldest American sailing yacht still in pristine racing condition, having undergone many restorations along the way. Built in 1888 as a sleek gaff cutter with an innovative topsail rig, ELF was known as one of New England’s fastest sailboats. Several owners, rigging changes and deterioration left ELF a near-derelict. Capt. Rick Carrion of Earleville, MD bought her in 1971, and eventually launched a non-profit organization (Classic Yacht Restoration Guild CYRG) to bring funds and restoration skills to return ELF to her original specifications . ELF was relaunched in 2008, and spent the next 13 years winning or placing in several classic yacht races along the Atlantic seaboard. She was a featured exhibit at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, MD until 2021, when CYRG decided it was time to find new energy to maintain and campaign this beautiful vintage yacht, equipped with galley, head, 4 berths, navigation electronics and the complete set of sails. She is now back on the Sassafras River on the upper Chesapeake Bay, ready to sail into the future.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
