47' Herreshoff Bar Harbor 31 Yawl (1903) - DESPERATE LARK
Owner’s Description
After being rerigged as a marconi yawl to drawings by her designer’s son L. Francis, she’s proven much easier to sail than when she carried the double-headsail gaff-rig that she and her “classmates” were built with. The Bar Harbor 31s of 1903 are very like the Buzzards Bay 30s of the preceding year, but with full keels and no centerboards.

Family friends owned INDIAN, a Bar Harbor 31 now in the Herreshoff Museum. Her rig had been changed to a masthead sloop and she was some swift!
