Owner’s Description
Camira (an indigenous Australian word for wind or windy) is a perfect example of the Moreton Bay Cruiser. But Camira was designed to be lovely to look at as well as capable and tough – her curved cabin top and wine glass transom, teak decks and varnished teak handrails and venturi hatch and her sparkling varnished maple interior furniture, reveal that she was not built to a price. She is heavily built and well-found (having cruised over much of the east coast of Queensland) yet looks delicate and beautiful (I think). She is wonderful for a couple, but comfortable with four or even six aboard for days and days – and has been known to play mother ship and accommodate up to ten, for idyllic weeks “down the bay”. Having undergone a number of major refits and having always been lucky in her owners, she is better now than she was when she was launched 65 years ago. She has a delicate, but beautifully functional set of at anchor stabilizers made from carbon fibre windsurfer masts and spectra halyards.
The latest project is to replace all of her stainless steel fittings with bronze and remove the chrome from the original bronze fittings she wears. A new duck board is underway and her masts are currently down for varnishing and repair; when they are done a suite of new sails is ready. There is always something!Already a member?
