From YATCHING, March 1980: A classic concept in modern fiberglass, the Scout 30 is a result of considerable research into the low powered, fuel efficient, displacement-type powerboats of the 1920s by navel architect Ben Ostlund who was asked for a representative design by Ken Wenman and Brent Gordon of Fairchild Yachts in San Diego California.
It is believed they made 12 of these in San Diego with three motorsailers and three with the enclosed cockpit as noted with Calypso. Former names include Scooter, Windows, La Nina, and Evergreen. This was passed to current caretakers by OCH member and founders Bill and Caroline Mayher.

Hi Howard! My wife Julie and I visited you and your beautiful Scout. I lusted for your cool side band radio that you said did not convey either the boat. We ended up buying a Scout in Long Beach named Sea Flute and had her shipped all the way to SC. That was our honeymoon trip and we created lots of fond memories from that trip down from Santa Barbara. The San Diego Yacht club stands out for the history shown in the plaques with pictures of decades of past commodores. Where is your old boat know? Glad to cross paths once again.
I owned hull #11. She was a motorsailer and we kept her on Mission Bay, San Diego. Many enjoyable trips to Catalina.
