15' Wood-Canvas Canoe (2020) - BEAN

“Bean” is a traditionally built wood and canvas canoe, with white cedar ribs and planks, ash stems, spruce inwales, and mahogany decks, outwales, and thwarts. Guided by two excellent reference books, “Building the Maine Guide Canoe”, and “The Wood & Canvas Canoe” (by Stelmok and Thurlow), a first-time boat builder constructed her over a borrowed form with advice from local members of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association and help from his 11-year-old son. The project made social distancing during winter and spring 2020 much more bearable. And the enjoyment continues as owner and family explore the many lakes and rivers around the beautiful Puget Sound area.
