I’ve refinished a number of pieces of furniture, but this 1947 Chris Craft Deluxe Runabout was, by far, the biggest yet! After working in Norton Boatworks, helping the owner, he offered me space and guidance to do my boat. I completely stripped the deck and hull and began repairs. The seating was removed and sent for re-upholstery. The chrome bits were taken for re-chroming. Faulty fasteners were removed and replaced with stainless and new bungs. A bad hull board was replaced. Then faired, sanded stained, varnished (12 coats) and reassembled. Two years later I was able to do the bottom.. two weekends JUST in removing all the fasteners. A stringer was replaced, cut from an oak board out of a tree taken down on our property. Over 8 months, new no-soak bottom, epoxy encapsulated, was put on. The new bottom and waterline were repainted, the boat returned upright and the Hercules reinstalled.
