Originally launched in 1938 as We’re Here the 42′ sloop Arroyo was rebuilt in Port Townsend over 5 years from 1995 to 2000. Designed by Ben Seaborn, Arroyo was launched with sistership Tola on Lake Union in Seattle. at the Blanchard Boat Company.
The yacht was raced out of Seattle Yacht Club for years winning the 1949 Swiftsure Lightship Race. A half hull of We’re Here now hangs in the hall of the Seattle Yacht Club.
Under the ownership of Roger and Nancy Newell Arroyo was rebuilt and restored to original condition. Work entailed 80 new ribs, all new deck beams and new decking. Missing hardware was replaced with bronze fittings and an old gas engine was replaced with a 40 hp Yanmar.
Arroyo is currently moored on Lake Union in Seattle not far from the original Blanchard Boat Company. site. the owners participate in local wooden boat shows and enjoy sailing in the Pacific Northwest waters.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
