About my boat : 30 years ago I attended Fundamentals of Boatbuilding at Wooden Boat School, and fell in love with Nat Herreshoff’s Biscayne Bay 14. Years later I finally got down to building one, inspired by my kids discovering sailing through a local junior sailing program. It took me the best part of 3 years worth of evenings and weekends, but the build went smoothly. I made a few departures from the design specifications — her keel timber is laminated of doug fir instead of steam bent white oak, and I built her mast birdsmouth style instead of by the Herreshoff method. I launched her in April 2021 and have been having great fun sailing her in protected parts of San Francisco Bay. She is a delight to sail in a variety of conditions and easy to singlehand with her self tacking jib. I get the most wonderful compliments on her every time I take her out.Already a member?
