Owner’s Description
Tricia is a design by revolutionary multihull designer Dick Newick. Dick focused on performance and believed people should adapt to a boat not the other way around. As a result her interior, while very comfortable under way ,can most kindly be called “spartan” The cockpit is large and comfortable.Designed to be handled by a smaller crew and for ocean racing she is superb at covering ground and taking care of crew
This is a boat I have wanted for a long time and I was very excited to find her. A survey uncovered some substantial issues and with a spouse that was much less than enthusiastic it took a a lot of soul searching. but ultimately with an assurance from the yard that “It’s not that big a deal” I took a deep breath and committed to Alegra.
She has recently completed an extensive refit by the living legends at Greene Marine in Yarmouth Maine including replacing the foredeck with a thoughtful re profiling of the bow so that walking forward no longer feels like “walking off a cliff” as her former owner put it. Replacing the transom and the addition of a tiny sugar scoop. This with a small emergency ladder makes re boarding from the water possible, and even easy. Substantial repairs to the cockpit. All new hatches, and much much more. Somewhere late in the program a bubble was discovered none side after painting. Exploration eventually led to a 3×4 foot piece being removed from the area, I remember looking at pictures and thinking “its not that big a deal”
Alegra had a long and successful career racing and cruising in the Gulf of Maine with a previous owner. and the sailing picture is from that era.
I am still learning how to sail this very powerful and capable boat. Plans include local and coastal cruising and racing in the northeast US.
