Owner’s Description
Ngatira has been under our custodianship since 1989. She underwent a conversion from gaff rig to a fractional rig with mast placement change and cabin with dog-house in 1964. We returned her to the original build with gaff rig configuration and low cabin. This was done in 2005 and took five years at a restoration school in the far north. I completed the work over one year as the school closed due to lack of students.Mast step and rudder box were severe ares of water ingrees and was not addressed at the first restoration. I undertook this over another five years at my own property – 2020-2015. Through Covid and other work commitments. Replacing garboards, hood ends, new rudder box, stern post and rudder and mast step. Interior was built with settee back and cupboards installed.
She was relaunched and sails set for the first time in five years at the Mahurangi Regatta and took the gun in her division. No more leaking to speak of.
We look forward to more cruising and racing in local regattas.
