Classic yawl, carvel planking, oak (!) on oak, built in Latvia, keel laid 1947, launched in Oct 1953. Designed by Estonian naval architect Paul Butte.
She was built by Monas Leibovitch and all her life she remained in the family under the name “Corall”, until the last owner passed away suddenly few years ago and I had an opportunity to buy the boat from a family in the beginning of 2023.
I renamed her “Vasara” (means ‘Summer’ in Latvian) because I always knew that my boat will be Vasara, but Corall and her history is much respected and old name is kept on separate board inside of cabin. I had an opportunity to scan a lot of historical photos and written memories from previous owner which I keep in my files as part of Vasara’s history.
We sailed her all season 2023, mostly ports of Riga bay and furthest to Gotland in Sweden. I had to learn Vasara, how she sails, to listen into her and to make new friendship because I hope we will have a lot of miles together in the future.
She needs some attention on underwater part which I am doing step by step. First part of 2024 was spent for entire refreshing of all varnish – in cabin, on deck and spars, therefore I had short season with launching only in August.
She is a gorgeous boat with a lot of history and I feel privileged to become her owner, and I hope I will manage to maintain her decently for many years ahead.
P.S. Interesting that she is very similar to Concordia type yawl.
