Owner’s Description
Huzzah was built by Newman & Gray in 1974 off the famous 36′ design of Bunker & Ellis. Originally, she was known as the Wendy Jean and lived the hard life of a commercial long-liner out of Gloucester MA frequently travelling as far as Georges Bank.At some point, the boat ended up back in the hands of the builder. At this point, she was in very rough shape. Newman & Gray gutted the boat while they awaited someone to come along with an interest in resurrecting the boat.
In 2015, Jonathan and Karin Nye were searching for a downeast powerboat that they could use for short overnighting and the occasional week-long cruise. Not wanting to wait for a new boat to be built and not finding exactly what they want on the used boat market, they decided to take on the Wendy Jean.
The process of rebuilding the boat and working with the third generation of boat builders at Newman & Grey proved to be a pleasant experience. After one year, the boat was completely rebuilt to the Nyes specifications. Rebuild progress photos may be found at www.jonathannye.smugmug.com/huzzah.
Upon completion, the boat was then rechristened Huzzah.
