Inspired by longer stays in Norway and after the complete restoration of the Colin Archer “Risør II” in Risør/Southern Norway, I started building the Zoe Mai in 1995. I found my ideal design after a long search in the Maritime Museum in Oslo.
My idea was to build a classic yacht according to my own ideas and completely on my own from keel laying to launching. With the construction of the Zoe Mai I have realized this dream. The construction was done in the spirit of the old craft tradition with only the best materials. With her varnished larch hull and deck, the Zoe Mai always attracts attention in the harbors. Designed as a sea cruiser, the Zoe Mai could prove her excellent sailing qualities on numerous sailing trips and during participation in many regattas in the Baltic Sea and more recently in the mediterranean.
Construction method
Hull: keel, fore and aft stem of oak, floors black locust, planks from vertical grain, knot free european larch, bronze screwed into steam-bent black locust frames, all plank seams caulked with cotton and then stopped with rubber compound.
Deck: marine plywood subdeck with overlay of larch planks and oak covering boards, semi curved (following cabin house curve).
Footrail and railcap, Cabin sides, cockpit coaming and forward booby hatch are made from oak.
Mast: hollow box section, made from Spruce, fractional rigg
Lead ballast fastened with Bronze keel boltsAlready a member? Log in herePhotos
