1970 Lyman 26’ Offshore, “Oh Cecilia.”
Has the original 1970 Chrysler 318. Lyman’s were built clinker style with plywood planking fastened with copper clinch nails and bronze screws. I obtained the boat 18 months ago and since then have done work to refasten the planks below the waterline, painted the hull and worked on refinishing the varnish (lots of it!). Because there was not enough bright work for my taste, last summer I added a veneer of Honduras mahogany over the plywood and fiberglass painted deck. I followed the Gougeon Brothers method for veneering, bedding the 3/16” strips in epoxy thickened with filler and graphite powder to create the black lines between the planks.
We use Oh Cecilia almost daily in and around San Diego Bay. She handles chop from other boats like a dream lives up to the “soft ride” Lyman’s are known for.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
