Shamrock is the last of the Bermuda sloops. When I purchased her for 10 dollars and a gallon of rum, she had been out of the water for many years , but luckily the previous owner had done a wonderful rebuild about 40 years before. I got her in 2005 and helped a shipwright get her back into shape in just over 4 months.
Shamrock is 25 feet on deck and 36 feet overall. She was originally built around 1870 which was late for Bermuda sloops. She was probably used mainly for fishing unlike sloops before her which where mainly used for transporting goods around these islands.
When the previous owner got her she had a cedar tree for a mast, he ended up changing her to the rig she she’s now, which is more of a racing rig. The British soldiers use to race these unruly boats and bet on winners.
