Owner’s Description
Serendipity is Hull No. 1 of the Pisces 21 sloops, built by Classic Boatshop in Bernard, Maine. She is designed by Chuck Paine, closely modeled on the Herreshoff Fish. This boat was built of cold molded construction in 1999 and finished very traditionally, with spruce spars, bronze hardware, no engine and three-strand running rigging. Subsequent boats have been built with fiberglass hulls, diesel engines or electric motors, carbon fiber spars and some electronics. However finished, they are all handsome boats.Serendipity has been on San Francisco Bay since 1999, originally in Sausalito, but since 2004 in Alameda. She is an excellent daysailer, with a large cockpit and has had literally hundreds of guests out for day sails on the the mild and warm Oakland-Alameda Estuary. But every year we venture out onto the cold and blustery Bay as well, even out into the Pacific beyond the Golden Gate. She’s also done minimalist cruises with sleeping in the cockpit at Angel Island. Pound for pound, she’s easily the prettiest boat on San Francisco Bay.
