Skirl is a nesting Oonagh designed by Doug Hyland. Nested she fits nicely on the cabin top and under the boom on our Bristol Channel Cutter Thistle. Each half weighs less than the inflatable she replaced. Skirl is very stable, we can row sail or motor and it is easier to tow than the inflatable.

Was the nesting option something you worked out on your own? Do you have photos or info about the fastenings, etc., you used for holding the bow and stern sections together? Thx.
The nesting option was something I did on my own with the designers blessing. I have lots of pictures and I can explain exactly how it was done. The boat is accurate to the designers plans except I cut it in half and modified the back seat so it would nest. The attachment hardware is very similar to what Russel Brown did on the PT 11. send me your contact info and I’ll send you all of the construction photos.
What a great idea! I already loved the Oonagh but covet nestability…
Do you think an already-built Oonagh could be converted to nesting? And/or how easy would your nesting design be to replicate?
