10' Alden Old Town Sailing Dinghy (1940) - SWEE’ PEA

    1940 Old Town Sailing Dinghy, restored in 2020 by owner and his son. Purchased in Essex, CT, in 1952 by owner’s dad, and used and loved for, so far, 72 years. Designed by John Alden for the Old Town Canoe Co. Only a few were sold because Alden designed her to sail, with a “V” shaped transom for a clean run and outboards were the new craze at the time. She sails beautifully! Original cotton sail rotted away and replaced with cut down Dyer Dhow sail.

      The Old Town catalog page, above, does not show the price of the bare boat. It was $207.00!
