Description
Adored and storied, SCARLET is presented here in search of her next steward. Named for the classic novel and not the flighty southern belle, SCARLET is built of white oak frames and Douglas fir planking, with teak detail that is grayed for aesthetic and not convenience.
The interior was re-imagined by legendary shipwright, Tom Townsend, who brought the galley up to the wheelhouse and opened up the aft bulkhead so the host is no longer banished to scullery duty below. Indeed, she is as elegant as she is civilized, allowing for perfect afternoons, evening refreshments and morning coffee under the cockpit canopy. The wood-burning stove in the cabin truly makes her a 3.5 season boat. Hot cider and a fire below make for the ultimate cozy shelter from the storm. Open galley, classic head, 2 bunks and full V-berth all make for the perfect family clubhouse.
Beyond her comfort, SCARLET comes with the pedigree of not only the notoriety of being Mr. Townsend’s personal boat, but a prior owner used her as tender to America’s Cup challenger Nefertiti (she was then known as King Tut III).
Being powered by a 2005 Crusader gas V8 305 engine allows for a much quieter ride than a standard diesel. The steadying sail above gives added stability when cruising. Solar panels with designated circuits create ample power for many days off the grid. Strong davits are included to attach that perfect tender.
SCARLET has been featured in issues 161 and 269 of Wooden Boat Magazine.
