Description
Madrina is a 2015 Iain Oughtred Sooty Tern built to a high quality in Oregon! Similar to the Caledonia Yawl, the Sooty Tern is 2″ longer, 1′ narrower, and faster than her close sister. I am the third owner and she has been a dream to sail and own. She is currently in the water, on a mooring, and we are sailing her every moment we can get.
Always stored undercover or indoors.
In 2024 her exterior (except for the sheer plank) was stripped to bare wood and repainted with 5 coats of interlux brightside and three coats of bottom paint. Her floor boards and thwarts were brought to bare wood and repainted with Interdeck Gray. Her interior got all new brightside paint, along with her rudder and centerboard.
Sails: New in 2024 by Doug Fowler, 119sqft. New sail bag (2024) that fits the entire rig plus oars for storage. Lug rig with 3 reef points and small mizzen.
Propulsion: This is an incomplete project but Madrina comes with a spare rudder outfitted with a 30lb thrust Minkota Endura trolling motor. (See pictures) The wires are run for a portable battery box. Included is the controls for the trolling motor and a wiring diagram. (I want to finish this project, but its too nice not to be sailing her in the summer!) I have tested the wiring on land and she runs, just needs a battery setup.
Trailer: Single axle EZ Loader Trailer, 2″ ball, all lights work. Wheels and tires in great shape. Spare tire with lock. Ready for highway use!
Other Extras:
-Cockpit tent for daytime use (shade)
-Anchor and Rode
-PFDs
-Trailer Cover- green sumbrella
-Spare set of old sails- fair condition, by Doug Fowler
-9′ wooden oars with leather and oar locksPhotos
