Owner’s Description
Poetry (formerly Orphan) is a traditionally constructed Watch Hill 15 built by the late Dave Corcoran of Bull House Boatworks for himself in 2004. The rules under which she was designed in 1898 produced graceful, narrow hulls with long overhangs. The Herreshoff 15s are reminiscent of the America’s Cup yacht COLUMBIA which was designed concurrently and many referred to them as a “Little Columbia.” The Original boats were built lightly and sailed aggressively which may explain why only a few precious originals survive. Fortunately, a few talented builders have taken to building to this fine design in the traditional manner which preserves the aesthetics of wooden frames and joinery. Poetry is constructed in this way with carvel cedar planking over white oak frames and a laminated mahogany backbone.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
