First yacht design by L. Francis Herreshoff, in 1923 (Burgess, Swasey and Paine Design #257), and launched as “Joann” by Britt Brothers, Salem, MA in 1924 for Waldo Brown. Renamed “Brigadoon of Booth Bay” by Sterling Hayden who had her re-rigged as a “Coaster Schooner” and brought her to the US West Coast. In the 1970’s, a dark period in her life when she was owned by a rock group, Brigadoon of Booth Bay was slowly rotting in a canal in San Rafael, California. She was rescued and restored by Terry Klaus who renamed her simply “Brigadoon.”
Brigadoon has been in the Klaus Family since 1976. She is an active racer in the classic yacht fleet on San Francisco Bay and was the flagship of the prestigious St. Francis Yacht Club in 2004. She will be 100 years old in 3 years and she is in beautiful condition.

Thank you for posting the photos of the original interior, they are great. I can just see L. Francis reclining on the settee as he spent a Winter living aboard.
Dennis, what I’d give to hear those stories!! I have been told, by a previous port captain at Ventura Harbor and also by Dana Hayden, that Sterling had a special place in his heart for Brigadoon. I sure hope he’s smiling down on the old gal and approves of the way we’ve loved her all these years. Thanks for looking!

A friend of mine used to hang out on Brigadoon with Sterling in Santa Barbara. I heard her stories and now I get to see the boat!
