Description
Designed by Doug Hylan and built by Geoff Kerr (Two Daughters Boatworks) in 2012, this particular boat is as good as a Big Ben Garvey design can get.
See video clips below for current view of boat. All photos and video were taken just before she was hauled, cleaned, and put in the shed at the end of summer 2025.
2018 Yamaha 40hp motor is like new with less than 20 hours total. The boat is in good condition overall, and there is nothing known wrong with the boat. 2012 Load Rite trailer is in excellent shape and is included. The boat and trailer have always been stored indoors.
The layout of this boat was to make it the perfect camp-cruiser that could go anywhere and have plenty of room for a two person tent aboard for sleeping. Standing headroom under the bimini. Forward bow canvas covers gear. Fenders and push pole included.

Here’s the writeup about this design from the website of designer Doug Hylan:
These boats would make fine boatyard skiffs or small harbor ferries and would be fine for a little recreational fishing or getting around the lake on summer vacation.
Garveys originated as shallow draft, burdensome, and very easily built boats for working the shallow bays and estuaries of the Jersey Shore. The advent of the internal combustion engine, and later, the outboard motor, ensured their survival since the hull form is actually much better suited to mechanical power than to the sailing rigs of the early boats.
Doug Hylan has refined the BEN GARVEYS a bit from their original form. They show a strong sheer and more rake to the bow transom for good looks, the buttock lines aft have been straightened out for planing speeds, and the construction is updated to make use of plywood and epoxy adhesives. But they still display the same characteristics that made their forefathers popular: ease of construction, shallow draft, good stability, and great load capacity.
Flotation compartments ensure that a swamped boat will float level and even support the motor head above the water.
