    The boat was designed by John Alden. He designed a number of boats for himself to race, they were all called Malabar. Desiderata is a MalabarXIII.

    Four Malabar XIIIs were built in the 1940’s. we believe that one of these boats ended its life in Lanes Boatyard in Oregon, where a mould was made from the original wooden hull, and new new fibreglass hull was created. The original boat was then stripped of all salvageable timber work and fittings. These were reinstated on the new hull.

    This makes Desiderata a very special and unique one of a kind boat.
