50' Elco Flattop Power Cruiser (1928) - ZEPHYR III
Owner’s Description
Zephyr is an excellent example of a 50′ Elco Flattop motoryacht being one of several production models for which Elco was highly regarded.
She has ventured as far as Parry Sound in Georgian Bay through the Trent Severn waterway and Ottawa via the Rideau canal. She also participated in the Antique and Classic Boat show at Clayton N.Y. where on three separate occasions she received the Best Preserved Cruiser award. Montreal is on the list for 2024, perhaps revisiting Ottawa.
She carries brass bow chevrons for three years of military service and her initial owner R.J. Forhan is reported to have been the first person to put toothpaste in a tube….a tough act to follow.
The current owner has cared for her since 1992.

I’ve been very fortunate to have watched the ongoing restoration of John and Signy’s beautiful 50′ Elco Flattop for about 25 years. John’s dedication and hard work have made this motoryacht an absolute joy to behold! I’ve also been fortunate enough to have made several ‘voyages’ aboard and basked in the reflective glory of his efforts. Long live “Zephyr III’ and here’s to many more years of ‘genteel’ boating!

Jeff also asked for info on Chevrons war service, hope she was not painted gray and chasing UBoats like my old boat.
Still as beautiful as I remember. There are so many memories… Fireworks, bbq’s, gatherings of friends and family and of course those engines!
