Wolf is an iconic 1993 downeast express cruiser designed by Chuck Paine and Mark Fitzgerald and built by Able Marine. We have cruised her for 19 years from Canada to the Bahamas. Everywhere she goes, she is recognized as the original Able “Wolf Class 44” and draws people to her beauty. Chuck Paine told me she is one of the prettiest boats they ever designed, and they designed lots of beautiful boats. Chuck is said to have named her Wolf because she “looked like a wolf in sheep’s clothing” with her sailboat-like grace and her lobster boat muscle. She is also quite sea kindly and fuel efficient for her age.
Wolf has been a wonderful boat for day trips on the Maine Coast, where we summer, and a great cruising boat for our trips south in the winter. She can be found all over Mid Coast Maine, Charleston SC and ports in between.
Most of the attached pictures are of Wolf as she is today. One picture is of Wolf when she was launched in 1993 showing her tall mast that supported a staysail that ran forward over her Bimini. Prior to our buying her, the mast hit a bridge and was not rebuilt. Another picture shows her balanced on a ledge after running aground; a testament to the strength of her hull if not to the ability of her helmsman.

The only decent picture of Wolf’s interior, was from when she was first launched. Unfortunately, the stove was removed before sometime before 2007 when I bought her. That stove would have been great cruising the Maine Coast in the fall.
I’ve kissed a few of those Maine rocks over the years. It’s not if, but when. Beautiful and perfect for Maine!
On this coast, they say, “if you haven’t hit a rock, you haven’t been on a boat.”
Gorgeous boat! Is that Maiwald stove?

What an awesome looking boat!
