Description:
Kevin will help demystify the wires throughout our boats and the place individual systems make up in one large system – the boat itself! Through education, awareness, and planning, Kevin will share his knowledge and passion to help us improve the safety and functionality of our boats. Live Q&A to follow.

Speaker:
Kevin Ritz | ABYC Master – Systems Lead Instructor, Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding

My condolences to you and your family. I cannot imagine it. Thank you for sharing your expertise and helping others avoid a tragedy.
Great presentation in the amount of time you had. Thank you.
Excellent presentation
This presentation has encouraged me to participate in the “Boathowto” electrical course online. Thanks much for the eye opener.
Awesome, heartfelt, and profoundly moving presentation Kevin. Thank you !!
Thank you very much. Very important information
Thank you!!!
Excellent overview. Thanks for sharing the details of your family’s tragedy. So incredibly sad. This will increase our vigilance regarding electrical systems and the risks around boatyards, and boats in general. What is your opinion about CZone and similar systems. We have just had our boat professionally converted to CZone, but have not yet experienced the advantages and disadvantages. Every wire and circuit on the boat is new.
How did he go from investigating the accident to ABYC/NWSWB lead instructor?
Is there a resource of where to find these ABYC Certified technicians?
My sincerest condolences. I can imagine the depth of your loss. One question I had was did the accident happen in salt water and does it matter?
I’ve been told that it’s better to have fresh water rather than seawater be the water supply to the head. What is the best way to do connect the fresh water system to the waste water system? What is used as a preventer valve to stop waste water from contaminating the fresh water system? Is it possible/feasible to hook up a Y valve so that seawater could be used if the fresh water tanks are low? This seems like a simple thing to do but I can see it going horribly wrong as well.
