This boat is special to me. My uncle purchased it sometime around 1968. When the original Merc 35 was upgraded to the 50 horse, the steering wheel was relocated to the front cockpit. My dad and uncle would take us 5 cousins on many weekend camping and boating trips with the Yann. We would spend all day on the lake; she was loaded down with a grill, coolers and lots of kids. My dad and I also assisted my uncle when he stripped it down to the bare wood. We stained and varnished her in 1987. She sat in my uncle’s garage for a number of years before he entrusted her to me in 2019. I know that was a bittersweet day for him. I brought her home and started to freshener her up. Mostly just cosmetic work on the outside but added a little structure to the transom. My 10 year old son helped me along the way. The classic 50 needed a little tuneup, which proved challenging, as parts are no longer readily available. We had her ready for the lake by fall and my uncle and dad launched her and had the first ride. We trailered her to central Minnesota for our vacation, and we use her at a nearby lake. We also assisted our local dragon boat paddlers with their annual training. It’s wonderful to be making memories with my children in this special little boat. They love it so much, they are already counting the days until I pass it on to them.
