I am building a Caledonia Yawl (to be named Uisge Beath – name worth researching!) because I watched Geoff’s videos when I started building glued clinker. First boat was a Snapper boat designed by David Payne – I cringe when I look at the strake lines – the CY is much, much better 🙂 Thanks for the videos Geoff & Steve. I am trying the Dynel cloth technique on Uisge Beath’s decks……………..

I always love seeing Howdy on OCH! I was inspired by OCH and Geoff Kerr to dive into a Caledonia build – Geoff built me a beautiful hull and I built the interior, spars, rigging and finishing over the summer of 2019. Orion now sails in Muscongus Bay. Thanks to OCH and Geoff for your amazing video series and the introduction to this design. Keep the Howdy videos coming!

We loved seeing Howdy full of kids at the last SRR. We hope that happens again. Terrific boat,

Great pics and videos; loved the build series and the cruising/camping episodes also!
As a builder of Steve Redmond’s ‘Whisp’ sharpie skiff design, I am anxious to try fresh water exploring/camping; HOWDY’s narrative is the inspiration!

      Steve,
I have watched all your videos and really enjoyed them. I am the owner of PATINA, (see listing here) and I am looking forward to meeting you to talk about our boats which we both seem to love, after having had many many other boats. I am also an avid follower of OCH. One thing I want to redesign is to somehow close the centerboard trunk, because it would lessen the need for flotation. What do you use for flotation?

Hi Richard. I’m converting to 4 of these Aero Beach rollers with custom made covers cause I’d never allow that god awful yellow to pierce our eyeballs all day while cruising.

          Howdy Steve,
Thanks for the reply. If this were a boat show in the real world we could talk further in person. This is a wonderful venue, and truly inspirational for me, but any chance you could call me at 617-412-1542 so I can ask you another bigger more complex question and pose to you a new idea? Call anytime.

Steve, she’s a signature vessel in so many ways. The build videos are of enduring pedagogical importance. The cruising videos have inspired many dreams, and brought them to fruition. (I even borrowed bits of the colour scheme for BELUGA, imitation being the sincerest form of flattery.) And the slow August videos speak (wordlessly) for themselves.

That was fun to watch. Very cool way to get out and about. Compliments to the crew.
